In order to make the coupon believable I went on a reconnaissance mission two weeks prior, whereby I collected pamphlets and other paraphernalia from the targeted franchise. These pamphlets would provide me with up-to-date images and a look-feel for the coupon. Even some of the coupon's copy was taken from a pamphlet.

I found the President of McDonalds USA's photograph on the McDonalds corporate website. To make our coupon as effective as possible I forged his signature next to his photo. From that point on it would be Michael Roberts' commitment to "giving back" to the community.

Rendezvous was set for 5:30 out front of Terra. We started distribution at 5:45 and finished in a quick half-an-hour at 16th and market. The night prior to distribution was spent in three different Kinkos across Center City cutting our coupons that were photocopied at a different copy center, Prints Plus.

We stuffed the top 1/3 of each stack from the Patco Station through to Suburban Station. The top 1/3 insures that our coupons go with the first morning papers and do not sit in the pile past their expiration time set for later that day.

6:15AM and we're already finished distributing just about 1000 coupons. The gears are now in motion and certainly beyond our ability to stop.

We arrive at McDonalds at 11:45, 15 minutes before our 'coupon' is valid for redemption. Already, there is a large assembly of employees shaking their heads no. The first thing out of one of their mouths was "Oh god, here they come!"

I buy a Big Mac value meal and attempt to blend in.

12:05, about a dozen people all in medical scrubs have come to redeem the coupon and upon being turned away start to cause a scene.

"Don't Eat Here"

12:10, they begin to collect outside and start making phone calls. So I finish eating and go out to try and record audio on what is happening. They called the Metro to find out why a bad coupon would be printed. They called McDonalds to find out who Michael Roberts is and why he's put his face on a bad coupon. They called KYW3 and demanded to be heard. A McDonalds employee actually goes outside to check the Metro box closest to the store for anymore coupons.

12:15, our operation is compromised, all cameras flee.

12:20, students try to redeem the coupons and identify me and I flee.
