A small java based cross-platform piece of software will work on camera equipped personal portable devices, such as PDAs, cell phones, and other connected media devices. The great thing about MaxiCode is that it can be read photographically as well as with a laser scanner. A local scanning device will be designed to retrofit in the kitchen; capable of being mounted beneath the cabinet or on the face of the refrigerator.
The MaxiCode is printed on the labels of all food items and will contain the same information that is included in the nutrition facts. The health-conscious consumer will scan their meal and the data will be compiled in 24 hour increments. Every 24 hours, a nutrition status report will be generated and electronically mailed to the consumer. The report will contain a nationally instituted nutritional standard as compiled by a reputable and trusted source. The consumer's data will be crunched against the standards and a suggested consumption plan will be presented. The plan will be centered around information entered by the consumer when initializing their HCS system - such as a person's age, weight, height and other crucial bits of data.
The software intelligently updates an internally contained core of nutrition databases as per confirming current version numbers with a master core published freely on the internet. Using Bluetooth technology, or presumably something equivalent in nature, the scanning devices, portable or otherwise, will transmit their synthesized data every 24 hours to the personal email address of the participating consumer. In this email there contains charts and graphs, qualitative information, and target nutrition goals for the next three day period. The software is scalable to plot greater increments of time and chart 30, 60, 90 days and so on of a person's diet illustrating their eating behaviors.
Obviously as with any health related scheme there is an element of Human participation that is required to have the system remain true. An automatic system that tracks eating habits has the ability to wear on a person's nerves. A looming non-human entity capturing information and producing its own reflections on a consumer's behavior creates a threatening and violating system. That system has a very real threat of being compromised or shut off. In having the system available but not automatic it is saying something different about use. The target user changes considerably, the effective use of the technology increases; the times of use are dependent on human action.
